its-a-wonderful-life-8Every year my husband and I eagerly anticipate settling down Thanksgiving night to our first Christmas movie of the year.  We have a tradition that has been going on for many years to watch at least part of a Christmas movie every night, and we don’t start until the turkey has been eaten and the dishes cleaned and put away.  We also like to enjoy a small glass of cool creamy eggnog as we watch.  It is something I look forward to every year.  We have our favorite must watch movies and then we sprinkle in a little Hallmark here and there.  One movie that we could watch over and over again is Jimmy Stewart’s “It’s a Wonderful Life”.  It has such a great message and just gives you hope in this life.  I love the title because when we look through all the tough stuff we deal with, I really do have A Wonderful Life.  To help me remember this sentiment this year, I decided to craft and easy DIY It’s a Wonderful Life pillow.

its-a-wonderful-lifeI wanted something that would be easy to make and not take up too much time, so I started with a pre- made pillow cover that I picked up at Hobby Lobby.  Then using my Silhouette machine I  cut out the words to “It’s A Wonderful Life” . I cut out the stencil using freezer paper with the shiny side down.  This allows you to iron the stencil onto the fabric making it really easy to paint.

its-a-wonderful-life-2I painted everything with metallic craft paint.  Starting with “It’s A Life” first and letting it dry.  I then placed “Wonderful” (which I did in a different font) diagonally across the pillow and painted it in red.  To paint I just dabbed the paint on with a sponge brush until I was happy with the coverage.  When the paint is dry simply pull off the stencil.

I love how it turned out.  The stencil helps make the lettering look crisp and clean.  You can choose any colors you would like and customize it to your decor and taste.  This pillow would also make a great gift.  So enjoy your wonderful life this season and have fun making this pillow.
