We were guests of Dollywood, but all opinions are my own. There is truly nothing like experiencing Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas. If you are needing a little Christmas spirit a trip to Dollywood will do the trick, because Christmas at Dollywood is magical. The lights, the shows, the food, the music, the faith. It has it all. We are blessed to live close to Dollywood and get to enjoy this spectacular event every year. As I am writing this post it is the week of the horrible wild fires that affected so many in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. It came very close to Dollywood also. Thankfully the theme park was spared, but they did loose several cabins. To help the victims of the fire Dolly has created the “My People Fund” which will provide $1,000 a month to families who lost their homes in the fire for 6 months. If you would like to donate please visit the “My People Fund” website. Dollywood is re-opening today for the first time after the fires, so in honor and in celebration I am posting 5 ways to enjoy Dollywood at Christmas.
The best way to enjoy Dollywood’s Christmas season is to buy a season pass. If you buy one now you get to enjoy this Christmas season PLUS all next year! This is the best deal around and something we always do. Another tip that we do is to have at least one family member (usually me, because I go with whoever is going to Dollywood) upgrade to a gold pass. This gets you free parking for every visit and 20% off food and merchandise. After just a couple of visits you make up the difference in savings.
Enjoy at least one live show. Dollywood is known for their outstanding entertainment, so don’t miss out. This year they have a new show, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, which I was excited to see as it is one of my favorite Christmas movies. It was phenomenal. The sets and music kept us all entertained and wanting to see it again. I will warn you, you need to get in line early, especially if it is a busy day at the park. About one hour early will for sure get you in, but it is worth it. There are several other shows that you can see also.
Enjoy some of the wonderful food. Dollywood has everything from full buffets to sweet little treats. You can have a sit down meal or wander around munching on roasted almonds or their famous cinnamon bread. What ever you choose you can’t go wrong. One of our favorite buffets to visit is Miss Lillian’s. You can find great food and amazing entertainment there. Remember you can always get a free cup of water wherever they serve drinks so you can always stay hydrated.
Take a chance on a thrill ride. Dollywood has added many thrill rides to it’s menu of things to do and they do not disappoint. The newest one to open this year is Lightening Rod. Wow! We tried it for the first time recently and it is so fast I didn’t have time to think. It was fun though and definitely something to remember and to tell your friends about. If you are not a rollercoaster enthusiast there are many other rides that will make you smile too.
Last but not least and by far my favorite is enjoy the lights and Christmas decorations! The way Dollywood is decorated with lights at Christmas is magical. There are different themes in different areas of the park so there is always something new to discover. I loved the retro decorations in Juke Box junction, but throughout the park you will find sparkle and magic wherever you go.
