Homemade Hot Chocolate Spoons

learn how to make these easy hot chocolate spoons with fun toppings

When the weather gets cold outside there is nothing better than nice cup of hot chocolate to warm your bones.  Every year we also host a caroling party where I serve my famous hot cocoa for a crowd.  That recipe is amazing and my most popular one so please check it out.  I love to customize my hot chocolate by adding peppermints, marshmallows or even a little vanilla and cinnamon.  A fun way to do that is to make home hot chocolate spoons.  You can stir your hot chocolate with these fun spoons and get some added dark chocolate, peppermint or marshmallows and make your hot chocolate taste divine.

These are so easy to make and would make great gifts also.  You will need:

Wooden spoons

Dark Chocolate Chips

Mini marshmallows

Crushed Peppermints

Red Hots

You can purchase a pack of wooden spoons at your local craft store, (or you could use plastic spoons also).  The toppings are limitless, but I choose these three to try.  You can also use any type of chocolate chips that you would like.  Dark chocolate is my favorite though.

Start off by melting the chocolate chips in the microwave.  Melt for 30 seconds, stir and then melt again for 30 seconds and stir.  Continue in this pattern until the chips are completely melted.  Dip the spoons into the melted chocolate.  Place on a cookie sheet lined with waxed paper.  (I spray my waxed paper with a little cooking spray also).

Immediately add the toppings to your spoons.  This is a great activity for your kids to do.  They can’t really mess it up, cause anything you put on looks cute.  Lightly press the toppings into the chocolate.  Once all the spoons are topped put the pan of spoons into the freezer for 15 minutes to set the chocolate.

Now you are ready to use your spoons.  You can set them out on your hot chocolate bar, wrap them up in a clear gift bag and give them as a gift or just keep them in your cupboard to enjoy on a cold winter’s day.

Use your spoon to mix your hot chocolate and leave it in to melt the chocolatey, sugary goodness into your cocoa.  It will put a smile on your face.
