I have just had the pleasure of reading a really good, captivating book, Doon by Carey Corp & Lorie Langdon. The main character of the book, Veronica has had a life that has been full of family stress and disappointment. When her best friend, Mackenna invites Vee for a magical summer in Scotland she can’t say no. Before the girls leave, Veronica has visions of a dreamy scottish boy in a kilt. These visions continue during the stay at Mackenna’s Aunt’s cottage. While exploring the cottage, the girls find two magical rings and a note of instructions from Mackenna’s late aunt. By following these instructions, the two friends discover the land of Doon and start an adventure filled with intrigue and romance, and a meeting with the mysterious “kilt boy”.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. At first I was a little worried that it was really written for teenage girls, and it would appeal to them, but it appealed to me also. It has enough mystery to keep you turning the pages and I can’t wait until I have a moment to myself to sit down and crack this book open. It is well written and the characters have depth and individual personalities. I loved that I was always wondering what would happen next, without being able to guess. I have always wanted to have a Scottish adventure of my own, and I was able to get a taste of it through this magical book. A definite must read!
