The “Third Thursday Community Potluck Cookbook” is written by Nancy Vienneau who has worked as a professional caterer and now works to promote local farmers, urban gardens and healthy, affordable cooking. Nancy started her “Third Thursday Community Potluck” with a friend. They invite many and encourage everyone to bring a fresh, seasonal dish and come ready to make new friends and discover wonderful new flavors. There are wonderful recipes and stories all organized by months, beginning with June. There are also tips and tricks for beginning and hosting your own monthly potluck.
I enjoyed reading the quick stories at the beginning of each month and then perusing the recipes. They all sound incredibly delicious. The pictures are gorgeous, really showing off the recipes. I just wish there were pictures for every recipe. I found Nancy’s writing to be easy to read and enjoyable. I found myself wishing that I could be a participant in one of her Third Thursday Potlucks to be able to taste all that glorious food. I enjoyed the reading the cookbook. I doubt though that I will make any of the recipes. At most one or two appeal to my taste, pocket book and cooking ability. While I found the recipes to be delicious and different, they also seemed to be more on the gourmet side to what I like to cook. Some had odd or expensive ingredients. While I am not a gourmet cook, I did enjoy the book and know that those will more gourmet cooking skills and tastes will definitely want this book in their collection.
