Palace of Darkness is written by Tracy L. Higley. It is set in the ancient stone city of Petra. The year is 106 AD and single mother Cassia flees to Petra hoping to be comforted in the loving arms of her late husband’s family. However, Petra is not the oasis that Cassia imagined. Here she finds answers to mysteries about her husband and his family. She also finds herself amid conflict and intrigue. How will she discover who she truly is and what she believes?
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was easy to get into the story line and the characters. Each character is written to have their own voice and you can truly feel their emotions, wants, needs and desires. I have always loved historical fiction and this is one of the few that I have read that was set back in ancient times. I enjoyed the history of it and the setting. The author did a great job of making me feel like I was in an ancient city. I could imagine the sounds, smells and surroundings. Tracy Higley does a good job of keeping you turning the pages. I had a hard time putting this book down, because I wanted to find out what happened next. A lot of times the story took a turn that I wasn’t expecting. I loved this, because I do not like books that are predictable. Overall, a great read.
