Today I am sharing 4 tips to help you reach your fitness goals. We all know it is important to make goals to give us something to aim for, something to help us put on our workout clothes and get out there and sweat. But sometimes life gets in the way, and we get discouraged and our goals seem out of reach. So here are some tips to help you achieve your fitness goals, or any goal for that matter.
Tip #1: Make Your Goal Attainable
This may seem so simple that you may wonder why I write it, but it is really important. If you have never run a mile, don’t set a goal to run a marathon in 6 months. You will have to work yourself silly, will get discouraged, and most likely you will give up. Instead set smaller goals. If you would like to start running set a goal that you can reach in 2-3 months. Something like run a mile in 10 minutes or be able to run without walking for 30 minutes. In 3 months you could even work yourself up to be able to run a 5k.
Tip #2: Make a Step Toward Your Goal Immediately
If you are serious about your fitness goal, do something about it immediately. Put on some workout clothes and go for a jog, do Yoga, or go lift weights at the gym. Even better, is to sign yourself up for a fitness event like a 5k or something similar. Sign up for an event that is 2-3 months away. That was it is far enough in advance to give you time to train, but not so far way that you will forget about it and put your training on the back burner. When you have signed up for a race you have committed yourself and it will help push you to prepare for it.
Tip #3: Write it Down
Write down your goal, but don’t hide it away. You may also want to write down ways that you plan on achieving your goal. Maybe a workout plan. Don’t hide that away either. Instead, revisit it and log down your workouts. This way you can see all you have done and will realize you are on track and doing what it takes to reach your goal.
Tip #4: Tell People About Your Goal
Tell the people who are your best supporters what you would like to accomplish, and some of things you would like to do to help you get there. They will be there to encourage you when it gets hard, and rejoice with you in your success. Along with that, you may want to find a workout buddy. On those days when you just don’t feel like working out, if you know someone is waiting for you to start their workout, you are much more likely to go.
