We are right in the heart of Winter. Around here that means the weather could be sunny and mild, wet, rainy and cold or snowy and icy. You just never know. I love cold winter days where I can be cozy inside, but I also know that I can’t just hibernate all winter and be inactive. Sometimes it is hard to think of some things to do during long winter days. I have put together a list of 5 winter fun activities for kids that should help get your wheels turning.
#1 Sledding:
When it snows around here, which is a 4 or 5 times a year. We pull out the sleds. We have a favorite sledding hill we traipse to and have a grand time. We race, try and do tricks and laugh a lot. Then the long walk home to nice warm hot cocoa for a crowd and hot toast. I love to dip my toast in the hot chocolate. Then we cozy up to a good movie.
#2 Snow Cream
Whenever we know we will get a good snow storm we set a couple of bowls outside to collect good clean snow to make some snow cream. We have a very easy snow cream recipe to we use. Our favorite to make is chocolate and it only takes 3 ingredients to make. Find the recipe here.
#3 Winter Hiking
We love to go winter hiking. We live 30 minutes from the Great Smoky Mountains national park and try and take the opportunity to hike as much as possible. Winter hiking is wonderful. It is not hot and muggy, there are less bugs and more amazing views. Since the leaves are off the trees you can see views and vistas that are hidden in the summer months. The cooler weather is invigorating and it feels really good to get out and move in the winter. I have a great list of Smoky Mountain Fun that you can explore.
#4 Puzzles
One thing I always look forward to in the winter is working a good jigsaw puzzle. When it is cold and blustery outside I love to snuggle up in my family room with my kiddos and stay warm and put together a puzzle. It is a great way to turn off the TV and the computer and the phones and just sit together and talk and create. We always fight about who will get to the last piece, sometimes it gets hidden. But Carter is usually the one who gets to put the last piece in. We have worked some good puzzles and it is just relaxing and fun.
#5 Read a Good Book
When I think about snuggling down with a good book I get almost giddy. What wonderful worlds books contain. They can take you away and you can have an adventure, mystery, romance or anything under the sun. It is a wonderful way to relax and take yourself away.
I love that Pizza Hut® is teaming up with Fruit Shoot® to support the First Book Literacy program. Every time you purchase a Fruit Shoot® product at Pizza Hut® through April 30, they will donate $0.5 to the First Book literacy program. Please use the links to check out this wonderful program.
I hope some of these ideas will help you enjoy the wonderful winter days that are upon us.
We go winter hiking a lot. It’s good to be able to get out without worrying about all the bugs!
When it’s cold out I turn into a bear and want to hibernate, so a good book indoors would be my pick, but my kids would love sledding!
Snow Cream!!!! That is seriously GENIUS!!!!!
Heck, these look so much fun I’d do them as well as the kids!! I could do with a snow day to just go out and have fun!!
These are all such fun ideas! I wish it was a snow day right now so we could try some of those ideas right now!
I love winter hiking. Going out in the cold is so wonderful. And, you don’t get sweaty the same way! hee hee It’s so rare that we get cold where I live that I’m totally loving it right now.
