It is birthday season at our house and I wanted to celebrate my husband’s birthday in style. Since he loves hiking and fishing and camping, I thought I would decorate for a camping birthday party. It was fun to put together and I think it turned out great. I got a lot of inspiration from pinterest, you can check out the pins here.
This Happy Birthday banner was easy to make. I found a free printable and printed it out on brown card stock. Then I simple punched two holes in the top of each one and started threading twine through it.
The cake was simple to make and decorate. I used a chocolate cake mix for the cake. To make a lighter version, I replaced the oil with sour cream and used only eggs white. The cake tastes great even in this lighter version. The frosting is my standard recipe that always gets rave reviews. Use LOTS of cocoa!
I stumbled upon these Pejoy sticks in the international section of the grocery store. They are from Thailand and they are GOOD. Plus they make the perfect logs for the fire. Simply break them to the size you need.
The fire flames are red fruit rolls up “mushed” up into flame shapes. The tent is scrapbook paper folded in half with a toothpick as the pole. These decorations turned out really cute, but were so easy. For the cake stand I borrowed some rocks from my yard to add a rustic touch. The cake is placed on a piece of cardboard wrapped in brown paper.
The tablecloth is a piece of fabric I found at a Thrift store. I had been looking for something like this for a while and was so excited to find it. It goes perfectly with my color scheme.
I went out in the yard and broke off some little sticks for fishing poles and tied fishing line on the end and then on the other end is either a gummy worm or a swedish fish. Other treats include colored goldfish crackers and M&M’s. I love the fish frying in the pan, that was my son’s touch and it adds the perfect touch.
It was fun to shop the house for other trimmings to add the the display. Once I got started looking around I was amazed to find how many things I had that would look great in this vingette. Candle light from the lantern makes everything sparkle and is the finishing touch to this fun decor.
