Dinner time is one of the best times of the day for me. My family is all around once again and we can sit down for a nice meal and catch up with one another. However, it can also be a hectic time of day. Homework is still getting done, I’m usually still working on one of the many projects on my to do list and everyone is hungry! I love to serve a good homemade meal, but most days I don’t have a lot of time to put it together. When that happens one of the quick recipes I turn to my easy recipe for Stromboli.
Stromboli is an Italian bread with cheese and meats all rolled up and baked together and simply delicious. I like to make mine using slices of deli ham, mozzarella cheese and a slight amount of tomato sauce. I also have a quick homemade pizza dough recipe I use, but you could use a frozen dough. When I have time I will make a quick garlic butter sauce to spread on the dough, if I don’t do that, it is still delicious.
To make clean up easier, I roll out the dough into a big rectangle right on my greased cookie sheet.
Then I spread a scant amount of tomato sauce (I use some from jar of spaghetti sauce). Nest is a layer with of deli ham (and pepperoni on one side, because one of the kids doesn’t like ham, but that’s what makes this recipe great). Fold one side over the middle. Do the same with the second long side. Gently press the edges together to seal and it’s ready to bake. This is the point where I brush it will the garlic and oil mixture.
Stromboli is like a hot pizza sandwich
Great for a weeknight meal. I usually serve ours with roasted broccoli, the kids favorite vegetable.

Easy Weeknight Stromboli
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 2 TBL sugar
- 1 TBL yeast
- 2 TBL Olive Oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 cups flour
- 1/3 cup tomato sauce I use spaghetti sauce
- 1/2 lb sliced deli ham
- 1/2 lb pepperoni
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 TBL Olive Oil
- 1 TBL melted butter
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
Place yeast & sugar in warm water.
Let sit 5 minutes.
In a stand mixed add rest of ingredients.
Mix well, Knead for 5 minutes.
Let rise for 15 minutes.
- Roll out into a rectangle about 17"x15".
Spread sauce down the middle of the dough.
Top with meats and cheese.
Fold over one side of dough on top of the meats and cheese.
Then fold the other side of dough on top of that. Seal the edges.
Mix ingredients for the Garlic sauce together.
Brush liberally over the Stromboli.
Bake at 425 for 20-25 minutes until lightly brown.
- Let rest 5 minutes before slicing.
For even easier Stromboli you can use refrigerated pizza dough.
