Fall is my favorite time here in East Tennessee. The weather is beautiful and there are so many ways to enjoy this beautiful area. The following are some activities that our family has enjoyed.
The Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center– Townsend, Tennessee.
This is one of our family’s favorite places. The last weekend in September they hold an old fashioned Country Fair. They have a rooster crowing contest, seed spitting contest and a greased pig contest for the kids. No kidding they slick up a pig with shortening and let it run in the pen until it is caught. I am the proud mother of 2 greased pig catching champions! There is also a great museum to enjoy and learn about the mountain culture as well as explore original buildings. There is so much to do and explore here. It is a must stop if you ever visit Townsend.
Oakes Farm Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch- Corryton, Tennessee
This is our favorite Corn Maze in the area. They have a great inflatable jumping pillow that is so much fun plus adult size pedal cars on a dirt track. The corn maze is always amazing and there is a fun hayride to go a pick a pumpkin. They also have food available or you can bring a picnic.
Wilderness at the Smokies: Indoor Water Park- Sevierville, Tennessee
This is always a fun visit for our family. With your hotel stay you receive tickets to the indoor waterpark. The hotel is comfortable and friendly and the waterpark is so much fun. There is something for everyone. Slides, hot tub and a wave pool to name a few. It is great to go in the Fall when it is the off season, so it is not so busy.
Oh Gatlinburg how we love thee. Be prepared to walk a lot, but there is so much to see. There is everything from the Aquarium to mini golf and in between. We always park at the parking garage behind the aquarium and then start off walking. Visit candy shops and enjoy free samples, play at several arcades and there is tons of shopping. For a family and wallet friendly lunch, we always eat a Pizza Hut.
Dollywood- Sevierville, Tennessee
Dollywood is a great Fall activity. The weather is a little cooler and they host a great Fall Harvest fest in October. There is always something new happening at Dollywood, we can’t get enough. The vintage car ride is a family favorite. But they also have lots of thrilling roller coasters and shows for entertainment.
Titanic – Pigeon Forge
This is a great interactive museum where you can learn about all things Titanic. Upon entrance you take on the identity of one of the actual passengers of the Titanic. As you go through the exhibits you will learn more of your story. At one point you are able to put your hand in freezing water and feel the actual temperature it was when the ship sank. At the end of your tour you will discover whether you were a survivor of the Titanic disaster. This a a wonderful learning stop for the family.
No Fall would be complete without spending sometime in this beautiful National Park. You can take a drive a enjoy the beautiful Fall colors that hit their peak about the middle of October. Camping is also wonderful this time of year. My favorite thing to do is take a hike. There are so many to choose from depending on your mood and time limits. There are lots of family hikes to enjoy with the kids, or longer hikes for the Adults to enjoy. Your choices are unlimited in this beautiful place.
These are just a few of our family’s favorite Fall activities. What is your favorite thing to do in the Fall with your family?
