My family is so excited that it is football season! We love to watch a good football game on Friday nights and our local high school football team always puts on a good show. Maryville High School has 15 state championships. Our rivalry with Alcoa High, across town, is so big ESPN came one year to showcase it on their channel. Since this is an intense rivalry the game is broadcast on the local Knoxville TV station every year. My family decided to by pass the crowds this year and do some tailgating at home while watching the game on TV.
While I was shopping for goodies for the Battle of Pistol creek, as the game is referred to, I saw some Tony’s® Pizzeria Style Pepperoni Pizza and Tony’s® Pizzeria Style Supreme Pizza that I knew would be great for our main dish.
I also knew that I wanted some fun side items to go with our pizza, so I decided to make some football cinnamon breadsticks for a sweet side.
To make it easier on myself I bought some refrigerated pizza dough and rolled it out and cut it into football shapes with a cookie cutter and preheat my oven to 425.
For the breadsticks you will need:
Refrigerated pizza dough
2 TBL melted butter
1/4 cup sugar
1 TBL cinnamon
I took some extra dough and rolled it into thin “laces” and pressed it into the top of the footballs. A slathering of melted butter gives the dough great flavor and gives the cinnamon something to stick to.
Mix the sugar and cinnamon and give each football a liberal sprinkling of cinnamon sugar and then pop them into a 425 oven for 8 minutes until lightly brown.
I also whipped up a quick frosting to dip the football breadsticks into.
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
2-3 TBL milk
Mix these ingredients together until well blended. You may need to add a little more milk to get a good dipping consistency. Then serve with your football cinnamon breadsticks to enjoy with your Tony’s pizza during the game.
I like to spread out our goodies on our coffee table so it is right in front of us and within easy reach as we enjoy the game. I found a vinyl football field tablecloth at the store and added some small footballs, pompoms in our school colors and some fun striped napkins. It was easy to set up and to clean up but it made watching the game feel more festive.
The footballs cinnamon breadsticks were delicious as was the Tony’s pizza. I like that Tony’s pizza is made with 100% mozzarella cheese for great flavor. Don’t forget to take advantage of the Ibotta $1 off 2 Tony’s pizza’s coupon found here.
