Lately some of my friends and I have been talking about how quickly our older girls will be leaving the nest. ( I still have at least two years, but it goes too quickly). We were wondering if we had taught them all they needed to know to be on there own.
We decided to use this Summer to help fill in some gaps, or re-enforce some already taught skills. The three mom’s are each teaching a different homemaking skills: cooking, sewing, baking and at the end we will collaborate to teach budgeting. We are even hoping to have a Dad night to teach them basic car repair.
Today was my day, sewing skills. I picked an easy pattern for Pajama pants and we cut, sewed and modelled their wonderful creations.
Sewing can be a hard thing to teach and learn. It is more fun if they can get together in a group. They are able to talk and laugh and teach each other. It was a great experience.
So, if you are looking for new ways to teach or re-enforce homemaking skills get together with the Mom’s around you and work together. Chances are good they too are wondering if they are teaching their children everything they need to know.
