Harry Potter is one of our favorite book and movie characters ever. For over 10 years we have been hosting Harry Potter parties to celebrate book releases, movie premiers and of course Harry Potter’s birthday. There are so many fun treats described in the books, they make my mouth water. I have always wanted to get some sweets from the trolley on the Hogwart’s express or purchase a sack full of candy from Honeyduke’s.
The best we can do is try and replicate some of the magical sweets at home. One of the most famous treats that we serve at parties are Harry Potter Chocolate Frogs. Unfortunately these don’t magically come alive and jump across the room, but there taste is wonderful, they look so fun and there is just something fun about eating a chocolate frog.
I was able to find these gummy frogs at Cracker Barrel. I bought 3 bags for $5 and probably had 20-25 frogs. These frogs are great because the arms and legs are free from the body making them look realistic and fun looking when covered in chocolate.
With a fork gently lift the frog out of the chocolate and let it drip to get all the excess chocolate off. (A gentle shake is usually useful in the step). Then place it on a piece of waxed paper to harden.
This is a great activity to do with the kids. They love to dip the frogs and make them “magically” turn into chocolate frogs. Give the chocolate at least a couple of hours to hardened. If you are in a hurry you can put them in the refrigerator to help the chocolate set more quickly.
Now you are ready to enjoy them at your next Harry Potter party, book reading or movie watching. I actually like the flavor better the longer they have been in their chocolate coating. The gummies have a fruity flavor and when they sit for a day or two with the chocolate on the flavors really come together and taste really good.
We had some extra chocolate left over so we also made some super easy chocolate wands. Simply dip pretzel rods in the chocolate and then sprinkle them with orange and black sprinkles or what ever you would like.
What is the one Harry Potter treat you would love to try?
