Kids to Parks Day 2018

May 4, 2018 By Kallee 4 Comments

Kids to Parks Day ~  Saturday May 19, 2018.  A great way to get the kids outdoors and explore our National Parks.

Kids to Parks Day is a national day of play that connects kids and families with their local, state, and national parks. By discovering our public lands, kids across the country are learning about park stewardship, outdoor recreation, STEM, and history. Kids to Parks Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday of May.

Our Nation has so many beautiful places to visit and discover

I know that when I go outdoors with my family the stress seems to melt away and we are able to connect on a different level without distractions around us.

This year you can sign up to win some amazing prizes!

Four lucky winners will receive a family camping package from NorthFace, Hiking Boots from Northside USA (my family loves their boots!), and a National Geographic package!

The National Park Trust has also put together a lot of wonderful family resources to give you some great ideas on enjoying the outdoors.  There is a page that has all the parks you can explore listed by state to make it super easy for you to find an adventure near you.

There is a park adventure booklet you can download with lots of information and activities for the kids.  There are activities such as leaf rubbings, underwater exploration in streams and a nature scavenger hunt.  Another great resource is boredom busters which has 9 hiking games for your family.  I know that when the kids are engaged in fun activities while hiking they enjoy it much more ( and so does mom and dad!)

I hope that you will signup to win some fabulous prizes and most of all take the opportunity to get the family outside and enjoy the beautiful nature we have all around us.  We live close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  Too often we get too busy to take advantage of this great resource we have near by.  Don’t take your parks for granted.  Get out and use them!  Take a look at my hiking tips for families  for some more great ideas.

National Parks are a great way to have family fun inexpensively. As a large family, we rely on parks a lot for our spring, summer, and fall activities.
