I am a snacker.  Especially in the middle afternoon between 2-4:30, I get the munchies.  It is probably my least energetic time.  At any other time of day I can be pretty good about making healthy choices in eating.

But that mid-afternoon slump hits and all I want is sugar!  Lots and lots of sugar.  Plus chocolate.  Chocolate is so good!

To help give myself a better boost of energy I decided to make some almond butter no bake energy bites.

Can I make No Bake Energy Bites without Peanut Butter?

No bake energy bites need a creamy ingredient to help hold them together. Natural Peanut Butter is a popular binder because it is loaded with protein.

If you don’t want to use peanut butter in your energy bites, almond butter is another great alternative.

Other great peanut butter substitutes are sunflower seed butter, soy butter, or coconut butter. Anyone of these would be a great base for homemade energy bite, though they all have their own flavors.

It takes just 6 ingredients to make homemade no bake energy bites.

  1. 2/3 cup Almond Butter
  2. 1 cup oatmeal (I used quick oats)
  3. 1/2 cup ground flax seed
  4. 3-4 TBL honey
  5. 2 TBL cocoa
  6. 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

They have just 6 ingredients and are full of protein and take just a few minutes to make.

I like them because they are just sweet enough to satisfy, rich enough feel indulgent, and healthful enough to make me feel nourished.

How long are no bake energy balls good for?

They can last two weeks in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It is great to make up a batch and have them handy to grab and go.

How many calories do no bake energy bites have?

Of course it matters how big you roll out your energy balls. This recipe should make 20 1-inch in diameter energy balls. That makes them 50 calories a piece.

Remember, 1 inch balls are not very big. You may want to measure the diameter the first few balls you roll. They are a healthy snack if you don’t eat too many of them.
