Having our children get a great education is a top priority for my husband and me. So much so that we decided to move into an amazing school district that was in another state 4 years ago. It was the best move we have ever made. The first few times I visited the Elementary school after we moved, tears would well up in my eyes as I watched at how loving the teachers were with the kids. They did not yell at them, they loved them and hugged them and taught them. The kids in that Elementary school are so well behaved. The hallways are quiet as they walk and you can tell it is a nurturing environment. I continue to be amazed at the power and influence teachers can have with our children. And how wonderful it is to see my children thrive in that environment.
I have been the PTO president at the elementary school and currently sit on the parent board at our intermediate school. As I interact with the teachers I can see how they love their jobs. They often put extra time into projects to make them turn out amazing and even put in some of their private funds. I enjoy seeing teachers with eyes sparkling, telling about an amazing idea they had to help their students learn, or to tell about the improvement of a certain student.
My youngest brother is a High School English and Drama teacher. I recently visited his school and saw his classroom for the first time. I have a always been impressed with the time he takes with his job, and the extra effort he has put in. Being the drama teacher, he is always taking on extra projects to build sets, collect costumes and paint props for their productions. When I visited I saw him interact with his students and I could tell that they loved and respected him. The power and influence of a teacher is amazing and life changing.
This year my 3rd grade son has had a teacher that has turned him into a lover of reading. I am amazed at all the books he has read, how he can tell me all about them, and how he can’t wait to settle down at night to read a good book, and how much his reading has improved. I will be forever grateful that this special teacher has instilled a love of reading in my sweet boy.
Office Depot believes that teachers change lives and recognizes the power of Education and all the wonderful, innovative things teachers are doing in their classrooms. Often teachers use funds out of their own pockets to help educate our children. To support teachers in their great endeavors, Office Depot has teamed up with Adopt-a-Classroom to raise awareness of education. Adopt-a-Classroom is a non-profit organization that connects donors with classrooms so teachers can keep doing amazing things. Classrooms can register here with Adopt-a-Classroom or you can donate to a teacher with this link.
Office Depot has travelled the country looking for stories of inspiring teachers. The video below showcases an amazing teacher who has her students help train shelter animals so that they become more adoptable. Truly amazing.
