Spring is arriving in all her splendor and glory, and all her pollen! I live in what has been called the “allergy capital of the world”, the Knoxville TN area. We are blessed with many different types of vegetation so that means I have also had to learn the best way to deal with spring allergies. I love to be outdoors this time of year to enjoy the blossoms, the greening grass and the warm sunshine. Because I do have allergies I have learned some ways to help me to enjoy the outdoors amongst all of mother nature and her pollen.
I shop at Kroger at least once a week for my family’s needs, so while I was there I picked up a couple of products to help with my allergy season. FLONASE and Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes.
When my family takes time to be outdoors together I find that we can really connect. There is no TV, no dishes to be done and we put our phones away to be able to enjoy some time together without distractions. We usually enjoy ourselves so much that we stay out longer than planned. Over the years I have learned to pack a “just in case basket” full of things we might need.
In springtime I arm myself with products that will help with my allergies such as Flonase which helps block 6 allergic substances, most pills block only 1* and Clorox® Disinfecting wipes which wipe away 99.9% of the most common allergens** on hard non-porous surfaces so that I can really enjoy my day. I have also discovered that snacks are a must! Playing in the out of doors can really stimulate an appetite.
I like to throw together a simple homemade trail mix. My favorite ingredients are:
Mini Chocolate Candies
Bottled water is a must and I have learned that having a blanket or vinyl tablecloth comes in really handy. You never know when you want to spread out a blanket or find a picnic table that you can use. Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes are wonderful for wiping down a vinyl tablecloth or any other non-porous surface.
Packing a frisbee and a football also allows for instant entertainment. There is something about tossing a ball or frisbee around that creates smiles.
This last weekend we were able to enjoy a few hours at one of our favorite parks. There is a walk trail and stream that we enjoy exploring and then we spread out our basket of goodies and enjoyed a sunny afternoon playing, talking and relaxing together. Having my basket full of my Spring outing checklist musts made packing up and leaving really easy. Since I had everything I needed from Allergy products, to food and fun we had a wonderful afternoon.

*Mechanism vs most over-the-counter (OTC) allergy pills. FLONASE nasal sprays act on multiple inflammatory substances (histamine, prostaglandins, cytokines, tryptases, chemokines, and leukotrienes). The exact number and precise mechanism are unknown.
**Use Clorox products as directed for removal of non-living allergens like pet dander, dust mite matter and pest matter on hard nonporous surfaces in your home. Keep out of reach of children.
