One thing that I like to look forward to in the cold of January is Valentine’s day. It is not a huge celebration at our house. It has been more of just a great day to show each other love and kindness and to indulge in a few sweet treats.
For me homemade treats always taste the best and so I like to come up with something different every year. I also am a huge fan of simple recipes like these Valentine Blossoms or my easy Cupid Crinkles. Ever now and then I will take on a bigger challenge like this amazing Chocolate Caramel Cake with Swiss Meringue Buttercream which was DIVINE.
No matter how easy to make, a plate of simple homemade Valentine Blossoms will be met with smiles. In fact as I made these they sat for a while until I could take the pictures and my family sure was anxious to get into them (scroll to the bottom of the post to see a glimpse of how I took the pictures). They also freeze well, so you can go ahead an make up a batch now when things are not so busy and then pull them out for Valentine’s. The Peanut Butter cookie recipe is a vintage recipe and it creates a crispy peanut butter cookie which I really enjoy. It also makes a lot of dough, so will need to buy two bags of chocolate hearts or just have some plain peanut butter crisscross cookies to enjoy. Either way you can’t go wrong. One thing to remember ~ you add the chocolate hearts AFTER the cookies bake and IMMEDIATELY after they come out of the oven. The bottoms of the hearts will melt a bit and this helps them to stick to the cookies.
